today was one of those "aw gaaawd!" days...

mine and perci's schedules at work have been pretty crazy lately. i'm working fridays now, and recently have been working saturdays too. perci's been working extra monday nights with his basketball girls team, so we've had to rely on auntie pam and lola paz to help out a lot lately. so with all the dropping off/ picking up going on, we've had a couple incidents of carseat confusion. i left pam carseat-less the other day, and karma came back hard today. i was the one carseat-less this time and it just set the day off bad.

when i was getting ready to drop gani off at daycare, i realized we left the carseat at daycare, and perci had the other carseat at work. i'm not a great on-the-spot decision maker, so i stood around for about 10 minutes trying to figure out what to do, which did nothing but make me more late for the places i needed to get to. since gani had fallen asleep fifteen minutes before, i decided to put him in a stroller and walk to daycare at sf state. now, sf state's campus is not very far from our house, but the walk took a little over half an hour, which is a long time when you're not expecting it. the walk also gave me half an hour to think about all the other options i should have taken. like take the bus. or the free shuttle that runs to campus. duh. but i didn't, so we ended up walking, and gani woke up the second i put him in the stroller anyway. i dropped off gani about 20 minutes late, all sweaty and smelling like sun, but he was happy to be there with his friends (it's cute that he actually has "friends"!)

after i dropped him off, i stood around for another 10 minutes trying to figure out how to get to work. i wanted to catch the free shuttle back to the stop by my house, but i didn't know where it picked up. i thought of taking the 26 bus, but that would mean walking to the stop by my house and catching it there, which would be lame because that would mean i could just go home and take my car. so i took the M train, which i missed because i was buying my ticket and it left me. but i caught the next one, only for it to go out of service a few stops down. so everyone on the train had to transfer to the J (or L or K... at that point, i didn't notice) toward downtown. i got off at van ness and waited for the 9 bus, and by this time, my back was all sweaty and a FREEZING draft was blowing the whole time i waited.

so finally i get on the 9, and the guys with the eye patch sitting next to me pulls out his newly-bought cd player from walgreens, still in the packaging. those things, as everyone knows who has bought a new electronic device from walgreens, are impossible to open without scissors. but our resourceful friend, in his frustration, decides to take out his lighter and set the thing on fire to melt the plastic so he can open it. i looked at him like, what the hell are you doing? and he kindly tries to open a window, but by that time, the toxic fumes are already taking over the bus and my nostrils. yeah, i don't think opening a 5"x10" window is going to help, man. thankfully, we were at my stop and i ran out of there, rushing to the comfort of my office to meet one of my girls who had been waiting for me for an hour.

today's total travel time to work: 2 hours, 15 minutes
typical travel time to work: 7 minutes
ah, yes, i am a spoiled so cal girl who needs her car.

riding the subway in NYC... gani seems to like it.
